The Place: Essex This Summer

Summer is finally here for all of us as the schools have now broken up, plus the weather is behaving (hopefully it stays that way!). I love spending time here in the summer as there always seem to be something going on and there's definitely a lot that I can plan to do. Having thought of an idea to almost do a noticeboard style post of all the new things that are happening, I thought instead I'd just round up in a post everything that you can get up to in Essex this summer...

Eating out
If there's one thing I'm most excited about for this summer, it's the opening of Turtle Bay in Chelmsford (the top of the High Street near High Chelmer) on the 5th August! I love a good cocktail and Caribbean food is certainly one of my favourites - who says a goat burger isn't easy to get?! There's a turtle bay in Leamington Spa near my university, and it's a favourite for gatherings, dates and just good times so I can't wait for it to come to Chelmsford (above is a visual representation I got sent to show what it's going to look like!)... For another lovely meal out, I'd highly recommend Giraffe in Chelmsford, too - I had the most divine prawn, chicken, mango and avocado salad with THE BEST dressing and I can't stop going on about it... plus they have a really lovely outdoor seating area!
Days out
With the weather being so lovely recently a good old picnic in a park is one of my favourite things to do - Hylands park has always been a favourite of mine, but I also loved the Discovery Centre nearer Braintree when I last visited! Colchester Zoo is also a must-do if you live in Essex - it's a seriously lovely zoo! I went last summer with some of my friends and it was great, even when the weather was a bit hit-and-miss... I think this is a definite one to go to.
V Festival is held in Hylands Park in Chelmsford for the South of the country - I'm heading back there this year (I went two years ago!). I honestly can't wait as not only does it mean I'm seeing some of my uni friends - it feels like ages since I've seen them - I love the line up and the atmosphere is pretty darn great, too (although, I'm not brave enough to camp so it's a good job I live nearby!)... There's also a few smaller Festivals, including beer festivals, that happen in the summer - one that always gets a good buzz is the White Hart in Margaretting Tye which is happening this weekend!

HomeSense is another of the new arrivals to Chelmsford (there will be a more in depth post  as I get to try it out a day before it opens!) next Thursday - it will be in the Riverside Shopping Park and I think it'll be a great addition to the shopping... who doesn't love a good homewear haul?! Of course, I also love intuLakeside (no this isn't a collaboration with them!) for the amazing array of shops, as well as all of their extras they provide - like their free Personal Styling service that I reviewed here...

Have you got any recommendations or plans yourself? I hope that this post gave you some inspiration for how to pass the time over the summer holidays - have a great weekend!
