Behind The Scenes Tag

Hello! Having fought through the chill of England in comparison to the 27 degree heat in Spain, I have another blog post for you... but first, I realise that I didn't upload a video on Sunday/Monday - I honestly haven't had any time to do anything, be it film or edit, so you'll just have to wait until this weekend... hopefully I'll have something up.

Anyway, I was tagged by the lovely Rikki from Luscious Lane to do her tag that she created called "The Behind the Scenes Tag" in which you lovely lot get to find out a bit more about how I go about blogging and my experience thus far... so here goes.

Why and when did you start blogging?
I started blogging last december on blogger, although previously I'd had a tumblr; I decided that tumblr probably wasn't the best platform for me as I wanted to write about things, not just reblog pictures. I initially started with the intention on mainly focusing on fashion as I wanted to go into the industry, which is why the first few posts are majorly orientated that way; despite that not really being the case any more, my love is still fashion... I just find it a lot more interesting for me to broaden out and focus on beauty, and even recently I've found my feet for the lifestyle aspect, too.

What gives you inspiration for blog posts?

Everything and anything. Sometimes I just come up with the ideas before I drift off to sleep and have to scramble for a piece of paper to write them down... I love reading blogs and watching YouTubers so I sometimes get inspiration from them in terms of a theme (see my "why make up?" post for evidence of this) or an actual idea for content. Otherwise I just like writing about what's been going on with me, as that's one reason why I absolutely love blogging: it's a little place that I can keep log of things I've done!

What advice would you give to people starting out?

I still consider myself as a new blogger, but recently I was contacted by a girl who's just started a fashion blog called the Catwalk Conspiracy and she asked me for advice. My two top tips would be:

1. Social media is the key to success - sign up to things such as twitter, instagram, google + and bloglovin'. Don't feel bad about a bit of self advertising and make it clear on any bios you may have that you have a blog and all of the clickable details are there. I would try and join in a couple of blogger chats on twitter if you can and just try and make time for speaking with other bloggers - not only do you spread the word that way, but you have a way of talking to people who have similar interests to you!

2. Enjoy it! Have fun with it, experiment and see what works (I'm still doing this now). If it doesn't work, but you still want to write about it - do it! It's not always about the numbers and figures of how many views you get or followers you have, the main reason you should blog is because you have your heart in it, and honestly it shows when someone doesn't which makes me unfollow/unsubscribe straight away!

What is the best thing about being a blogger?

Everything. There are some negatives, but like everything in life that's going to be the case. You can be susceptible to hate or criticism, you can feel down and continuously compare yourself to others and you can feel guilty about not posting, or posting late or writing a bad post. But none of that matters. You work through it, and it's taught me so much about time management (ha!) and how to get over those sorts of things and just focus on what I love, and that's probably the best thing. It's something that you love, and hopefully nothing will change that.

What do your friends and family think about you being a blogger?

Unlike most people, I post mine publicly on my personal Facebook account as well as on twitter - and have done ever since I started, mainly because I just thought that was what people did... Fortunately I've been overwhelmed with compliments from friends and family, it's allowed me to write a column in the school newspaper and has inspired some people to start a blog. I get a few jibes here and there, but if they didn't know about my blog, then how would they have known how to completely and utterly surprise me with some of the best gifts ever for my birthday?!

Is blogging how you pictured it to be?

Definitely not. I thought it would be easy and as simple as anything. The blogging world has taken off this year, and when I started it was just starting to increase in popularity, which in some respects has made it harder to gain recognition as so many people are becoming "big bloggers". It takes a lot of time, effort and guilty consciences to make my blog run; but as long as I'm improving, I honestly don't mind!

Are there any bloggers that you feel deserve more readers/ have you made any friends through blogging?
There are far too many people that I follow on Bloglovin', Twitter, Instagram and YouTube to name. I'm thinking of starting a blog roll soon, so keep your eyes peeled out for everyone that I follow and constantly read, because I think they're the best way of helping each other out and I love finding new blogs through other blogs!

What inspired your blog name?

I can't remember if I ever wrote this in a blog post or not, but I'll tell the story again because it's one of my favourites. My friends Catherine, Anna and I were sitting in a chemistry lesson once and were joking around, doodling like crazy and coming up with the most bizarre things that we could potentially sell... We came up with the name of Becana by combining Becky, Catherine and Anna together and I promised them that if I ever went into fashion I'd use the name because I loved it so much. I regret not having a name many people can pronounce, but d'you know what? I wouldn't change the way it was created for the world.

So there you have it, I loved this tag and am super happy that Rikki made it! I think I'm going to tag Amy from the Catwalk Conspiracy and Penny from Lilliesandlove (who has, as you may or may not know, has been my blogging guru since the start!). Have a lovely week!
Becky xx
